April 26, 2024 -- Supt. McCarty-Stewart shares a calendar of school events and activities as we enter the final month of the 2023-2024 school year.
 


April 19, 2024 --  In today's "Friday Firebird Focus," Supt. McCarty-Stewart celebrates the Month of the Military Child and shares the joy of helping an Army Dad surprise his children -- students at Oakview Elementary and Van Buren Middle School -- upon his return home from being gone for seven months of training. 

 

April 5, 2024 -- Supt. McCarty-Stewart shares safety info from NASA Science and the City of Kettering in today's "Friday Firebird Focus" ahead of Monday's historic Total Solar Eclipse.

 

March 15, 2024 -- As we continue efforts to get our new kindergartners registered for the 2024-2025 school year, Supt. McCarty-Stewart focuses on the importance of good school attendance -- from the earliest preschool and kindergarten years to students' years in high school -- in this week's "Friday Firebird Focus."

 

March 8, 2024 -- In today's "Friday Firebird Focus," Supt. McCarty-Stewart congratulates our Future Firebird Comp Cheer GRAND CHAMPIONS and shares recommendations related to the CDC's updated isolation guidelines.

 

March 1, 2024 -- In today's "Friday Firebird Focus," Supt. McCarty-Stewart provides an update on district facilities projects, including the abatement of Barnes Building and renovations at the Transportation building; and gives a shout-out to Asst. Coach of Firebird Girls Basketball Matt Madges, and Asst. Coach of Firebird Boys Basketball Eric Trent. Madges and Trent have been named SW District Assistant Coaches of the Year! Congratulations!

 

February 23, 2024 -- In today's "Friday Firebird Focus," Supt. McCarty-Stewart turns the spotlight on Black History Month, Fairmont's Black Student Union and the KCS student winners of the City of Kettering's 2024 Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Essay and Video Contest.
 


February 9, 2024 -- Today's "Friday Firebird Focus" includes a shout-out to our school counselors during National School Counseling Week and a reminder that next Thursday is Parent-Teacher Conferences for our elementary and middle school families, and there's no school on Friday, February 16 (Teacher PD Day) and Monday, February 19 (Presidents' Day.)

 

February 2, 2024 -- This week's "Friday Firebird Focus" takes a look at the Lunch & Learn program spearheaded by Nicole Will, KCS's Workplace Development Navigator, which exposes middle school students to in-demand careers through fun and engaging activities. 

 

January 26, 2024 --  Supt. McCarty-Stewart summarizes changes in the 2023-24 school calendar that will result in "no school" days for students on March 19 (Election Day) and April 8 (Solar Eclipse) 

 

January 19, 2024 -- It's been a crazy week of inclement weather, so Supt. McCarty-Stewart talks "calamity days" in this week's "Friday Firebird Focus."

 

January 12, 2024 -- Welcome back from Winter Break, Firebirds! In this week's "Friday Firebird Focus," the superintendent provides information for our families who will be registering kindergartners for the 2024-2025 school year!

 

December 15, 2023 -- KCS finishes the semester strong, and Supt. McCarty-Stewart highlights a few of the things worth celebrating in this week's Friday Firebird Focus, including recognition of our Portrait of a Graduate model students, our staff members who received STEAM grants to further STEAM education in our classrooms, Van Buren Middle School's new PBIS Store, Fairmont Marketing CTC students who are working with the Engineering and Science Hall of Fame on a new website and Mr. Boze and his students' record-setting collection of $13,225 for their annual Adopt-a-Family Program!

 

December 8, 2023 -- Supt. McCarty-Stewart discusses what proved to be a difficult week in the Kettering Schools, as the district dealt with a serious issue with a long-time music teacher in today's Friday Firebird Focus. 

 

December 1, 2023 -- Supt. McCarty-Stewart traveled to classrooms around Fairmont this week and found that even several hours of observation can't do justice to EVERYTHING that takes place at our high school that truly has "something for everyone!"

 

November 17, 2023 -- Supt. McCarty-Stewart joins kindergartners from Indian Riffle Elementary School in extending Thanksgiving Wishes to all!

 

November 10, 2023 -- THANK YOU VETERANS! 

 

November 3, 2023 -- The Kettering Schools were proud to host Gov. DeWine and Lt. Gov. Jon Husted at Fairmont High School for the announcement of millions of dollars in grant funding from Ohio for career tech education across the state. In this Friday Firebird Focus, Supt. McCarty-Stewart highlights the governor's visit and outlines how the Fairmont Career Tech Center will be using the funds it has received. 

 

October 27, 2023 -- Superintendent McCarty-Stewart gives a shout-out to KCS staff members, Laura Heitz, Stevin Crane and Savetka Brazie, as well as Student Inventors from across the district who excelled at the State Invention Convention Competition in today's Friday Firebird Focus.

 

October 20, 2023 -- In today's "Friday Firebird Focus," Supt. McCarty-Stewart gives a shout-out to the winners of the district's Attendance Challenge -- Prass Elementary, Van Buren Middle School and Fairmont's Junior Class -- who earned bragging rights to the Dor-Wood Optimist Club Attendance Trophy for the semester!

 

October 13, 2023 -- In this week's "Friday Firebird Focus," Superintendent McCarty-Stewart introduces the inductees into the 2023 Chester A. Roush Educational Hall of Fame --  Lisa Apt, Nancy Brown and Mattie Fair -- and extends an invitation to all to the ceremony on October 30, in the Van Buren Middle School Auditorium

 

September 29, 2023 -- Superintendent McCarty-Stewart talks about the importance of communicating when you have safety concerns as we prepare to enter October -- Ohio School Safety Month and National Bullying Prevention Month.

 

September 22, 2023 -- In this week's Friday Firebird Focus, we celebrate our 2022-2023 State Report Card and all of YOU whose support of KCS children, staff and schools translates into success for ALL of our students!

 

September 8, 2023 -- Be sure to check out the photo of Steve Cotrone, his Trekkies and the USS Enterprise --the BEST float in Monday's Holiday at Home Parade!!

 

September 1, 2023 -- Having the opportunity to be a part of the Road Naming ceremony for Sgt. Kevin Lannon and Sgt. Cameron Thomas was an absolute honor for the Kettering Schools today, the district announces new game day safety procedures for Roush Stadium, the Fairmont Alumni Association is holding a get-together on Sunday and volunteers are needed to keep the After Prom tradition alive.

Golf 'Fore' KCS Forward Foundation

The KCS Forward Foundation is sponsoring its inaugural golf outing to support the Kettering City Schools!

January/February 2024 -- It's cold outside...and there just may be a murder to solve inside, as the Fairmont Theatre Department presents "Mousetrap!" Join Supt. McCarty-Stewart as she talks with cast members about this year's Winter Play.

 

December 2023 -- The Superintendent wishes everyone a happy holiday season and a restful Winter Break!

 

November 2023 -- Supt. McCarty-Stewart uses the lobby outside the Student Activities Office (which happens to be chocked full of canned goods and other non-perishable items for Fairmont's annual Thanksgiving Food Drive) to wish everyone a very Happy Thanksgiving!

 

November 2023 -- Fairmont Business and Leadership Teacher Kyle Boze once again challenges his students to raise LOTS of $$ for their annual Adopt-a-Family Program. In this segment of OTMWM, Boze and his students chat with Supt. McCarty-Stewart about the "how's" and "why's" of putting in the effort to help others!

 

October 2023 -- Elwood P. Dowd and his 6-ft-3-1/2-in. friend are coming to the Fairmont Auditorium on November 2, 3 and 4, for the Fairmont Theatre production of "Harvey!" Cast members join Supt. McCarty-Stewart for a discussion of their production of this Pulitzer Prize-winning play.

 

October 2023 -Supt. McCarty-Stewart talks with Transportation Supervisor Todd Silverthorn about Bus Safety as we kick off National School Bus Safety Week.

 

September 2023 -- Supt. McCarty-Stewart and Interim Treasurer Rick Taylor discuss the impact of the County Auditor's triennial appraisal on property owners and the district
